Bixente Lizarazu spoke this Sunday about the news of the France team.
This Saturday, the draw for the group stage of Euro 2024 took place in Germany, in Hamburg. And unlike the previous edition, the French team inherited an affordable group, with the Netherlands – whom it had already faced during the qualifying campaign –, Austria and a play-off who will be the future winner of match A (Wales or Finland or Poland or Estonia).
For Bixente Lizarazu, the situation has completely changed compared to the last Euro. Where Didier Deschamps had to focus physical preparation on the first matches, the Blues will be able to reach their peak form later in the competition. An important parameter in this type of large tournament.
“Qualification is within our reach”
“ We escape the ‘group of death’ which is that of Spain, Italy, Croatia and Albania. This group B looks like the one we had during the previous Euro with Germany, Portugal and Hungary, explained the 1998 world champion in the newspaper L’Équipe. This draw forced us to leave some feathers and immediately be 100%, without being able to increase our strength. There, it’s more favorable. Qualification is within our reach“, concluded Lizarazu.
