After the penalty affair, Newcastle still have it bad

Eddie Howe says Newcastle need to see themselves as world rivals after their ill-fated use of VAR against Paris Saint-Germain.

Newcastle, who were the target of an unfortunate VAR decision, have still not digested the incident as demonstrated by the comments of their coach at a press conference, where he once again deplored the fact that his team found herself injured against PSG. We remember that Tino Livramento was punished for a cross from Ousmane Dembélé which hit his elbow via his torso – Kylian Mbappé sent the penalty and since then, the chatter has been heating up on both sides of the Channel.

The Magpies return to Premier League action this Saturday when they host Manchester United at St James’ Park and Howe issued a rallying cry to Newcastle players and supporters.

“We have to try to use it as motivation. I don’t know if this feeling should be an injustice, but if it helps certain players reach their full potential for this match, I’m all for it. I always want to feel like we’re against everyone outside of Newcastle. This helps us. It’s a good mentality to have, that of being in competition with everyone. This has served us well so far, so if it helps the players, great. I don’t think I had to develop (this attitude) strategically. I think it happened (naturally).
