OL: Grosso’s completely failed passage

Released from his duties this Thursday, Fabio Grosso presents inglorious figures on the bench of Olympique Lyonnais.

Perhaps the task was simply too difficult. Arrived on the benchOlympique Lyonnais on September 16 when the Rhone club was in sporting crisis (one point in four Ligue 1 matches), the Italian technician did not succeed in redressing the situation. Eight matches later, OL have only seven points and Grosso’s only achievement is to have brought home Lyon’s first victory of the season (against Rennes on November 12), his only success.

An unflattering assessment

With only five points taken in his first seven Ligue 1 matches, the 2006 world champion has the worst record for a coach in the history of OL at the same stage in the championship. He is also the coach with the lowest total. of matches on the Lyon bench in history.

Replacing Grosso, Pierre Sage will therefore become the fourth coach of the current bottom of Ligue 1, this is only the third time that this has happened in the elite in the 21st century after Marseille in 2001-2002 and Nantes in 2020- 2021, symbol of Lyon’s instability since the start of the season.
