Lens is unheard of!

The defeat conceded by RC Lens (6-0) on Wednesday on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium has entered the annals of French football.

Lens experienced a real nightmare on Wednesday. The evening started badly even before the match against the Gunners kicked off. Consequence of the stunning victory won by PSV Eindhoven on the pitch of Sevilla FC. Trailing 2-0 shortly after returning from the locker room, the Dutch club finally won 3-2 in the final moments of the match and forced the Sang et Or to a new feat against Arsenal to hope to continue the adventure in the League champions.

Alas, if Lensois’ trip to London will be remembered, it is because of the incredible slap they received against the Premier League leaders. Franck Haise’s men didn’t even last a quarter of an hour before conceding the first goal and the Lensois completely collapsed before the half-hour mark, conceding three goals in barely five minutes. In the end, Lens would lose 6-0 and suffer the heaviest defeat of a French club in C1.

Bordeaux also lost 6-0 in C3

And to find such a setback for a French club in European Cups, we have to go back to the previous century when Bordeaux sank to Parma (6-0), on March 16, 1999, in the UEFA Cup, the ancestor of the Europa League.

Furthermore, by finding themselves trailing 5-0 at the break, RC Lens equaled a record of their best enemy. The French vice-champions in fact imitated Losc during their trip to Bayern Munich in 2012. At least Lille had saved the honor in the second half to lose 6-1 in Bavaria…
