Jérôme Rothen, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, has no illusions about the capital club’s chances in the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain faces Newcastle this Tuesday evening at the Parc des Princes, as part of the 5th day of the group stage of the Champions League. A defeat for the Parisians could eliminate them from Europe’s premier competition. Former PSG and Monaco player Jérôme Rothen prepares for this eventuality. He believes that the Ile-de-France club is not equipped to win the C1 this year.

“Winning a European Cup has happened to all the big clubs. And unfortunately, winning the Europa League has never happened to PSG. (…) Competitions should not be minimized. This year, PSG is not equipped to win the Champions League. There are too many gaps. So I am preparing for a possible premature elimination in the group stage,” he declared on RMC.

The 2004 European vice-champion believes that the Europa League would be a more realistic objective for PSG. “I would be disappointed, but then if PSG does not have the level to get out of the groups but they qualify for the Europa League, I start from the principle that they can be armed to win it,” he said. added.
