Tottenham, the collapse!

After losing its leading position two weeks ago, Tottenham is now ejected from the top 4 by Aston Villa, who beat Spurs on Sunday in London (1-2).

Everything is moving very quickly in the Premier League. Two weeks after Manchester City took power at the expense of Tottenham, it is now Arsenal who are the leader of the English standings. The Spurs are no longer even in the top 4! They are 5th after their home defeat against Aston Villa (1-2) on Sunday, and it is Unai Emery’s team which moves to 4th (tied with Liverpool, 3rd).

However, the residents of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium opened the scoring, Giovani Lo Celso scoring with a great strike (22nd). Everything then went wrong for Son Heung-Min and his teammates. Pau Torres equalized before the break, at the end of added time in the first period (45th + 7), then Ollie Watkins gave the visitors the advantage (61st), after sneaking between the two central defenders of Tottenham from day, Emerson Royal and Ben Davies…

Certainly undermined by injuries, Ange Postecoglou’s team also lacked success in front of goal. Purely and simply. “Sonny” scored a goal disallowed for a slight offside on a strike from Pedro Porro on the post (85th). The South Korean did not score during this series of three defeats. Before that, Emiliano Martinez made two important saves on the same action, on attempts by Brennan Johnson and Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg (73rd). Tottenham are going through a bad time.
