Ties between Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid are set to intensify in 2024.
The former Los Blancos star has been tipped as a future Real Madrid manager after his impressive debut as coach with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
Alonso is considered the club’s first choice, if Carlo Ancelotti chooses to leave at the end of the season, with no word on whether the Italian veteran will be extended.
Real Madrid are waiting to see how the season goes before making a decision on Ancelotti, with Brazil still confident they can lure him to Rio de Janeiro in 2024.
Alonso’s contract at the BayArena runs until 2026 and Leverkusen will fight to retain their coach in the coming months.
However, Alonso has spoken of his admiration for Ancelotti, and the two could cross paths again in Madrid next summer.
