It’s been a long time since Éric Abidal put his crampons aside, but he nonetheless remains attentive to current football. Especially when it comes to FC Barcelona, of which he was a player, then sporting director between 2018 and 2021. And precisely, while the former French defender was in Poland, for the time of a congress, the latter delivered some advice to his former club. According to him, Barça must adapt through the cycles.
“The same playing philosophy has prevailed for years: tiki-taka. However, we must be open to evolution”, he said. Éric Abidal considers that football is now “more athletic and stronger. When you go to Italy, France or England, the idea of football is completely different.. The ex-French international also took the opportunity to send a nice message to Barça: “I was sports director there for almost two years, but for me, it was like 10 years! (…) It was a great experience. It was sad to leave this position.”
