Impressively, Tottenham have had a remarkable start to the Premier League season. Leader of the championship at the end of October, the capital club was shining and the exploits of Heung-min Son and James Maddison suggested that the residents of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had the weapons to win their first league title. England since 1961. And what about Ange Postecoglou’s debut on the bench of the London squad? His debut on the Spurs bench was idyllic. Despite the necessarily handicapping departure of Harry Kane, the Australian coach had managed to find the right tactical formula to allow his squad, bloated, but less impressive than several of his rivals, to shine on the lawns across the Channel.
His tactical mastery had also allowed him to win the title of best coach of the month three times in a row since the start of the season. An accomplishment that had only been achieved by the cream of Premier League coaches in the past. Thus, helped by the lack of European competition, Tottenham had found a cruising speed. And while no cloud seemed to be on the horizon, the month of November came to sweep away all these certainties.
Three defeats in a row in the Premier League
Beaten by Chelsea during a breathtaking match where Spurs lost their nerve and many players, the flock of the former Celtic Glasgow coach were also swept away by Wolverhampton and Aston Villa this Sunday with the same score (2-1 ). Three defeats in a row which highlight the limits of the north London team: without several of its executives, it is capable of losing against anyone. While Yves Bissouma and Christian Romero were suspended this Sunday, James Maddison, Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr, Micky Van de Ven, Ivan Perisic and Manor Salomon were all injured. A full infirmary which inevitably prevents Spurs from dreaming bigger. This Sunday, it was Rodrigo Bentancur who had to give up his place due to injury after 32 minutes at a very high level.

Obviously, with this poor form in such an intractable championship, Tottenham came back into line. Currently fifth, Spurs are already four points behind their rival and leader Arsenal. A situation which does not seem to alert Ange Postecoglou as he suggested at the end of the meeting at the microphone of Sky Sports : “A tough result but I couldn’t be happier with the way the boys played. I’m really proud of them, I thought we played fantastic football and on another day we would have won comfortably. I have no complaints about the effort they put into this match. There is no frustration. We played well and as a coach that’s all you can ask for. Sometimes results don’t go the way you want them to, but as a coach I want the players to be committed to what we’re trying to do and they were all totally engaged.»
