That’s a good thing done. Three months after his arrival in the form of a loan from Benfica, Gonçalo Ramos made a permanent commitment to PSG. “Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce that it has exercised the option to purchase Gonçalo Ramos. The Portuguese striker is now linked to the club until 2028., informed the French club yesterday. Amount of the operation: €65 million, plus €15 million depending on the different bonuses achieved by the attacker and his new team.

Everyone is fixed on what happens next, but one thing stands out in this announcement. His timing is rather unusual. Both clubs managed to keep the information to themselves. No rumor on the subject has flourished in the media or on social networks. However, it took place in the middle of the international break, a time when the news is less frenetic for media lacking information. This actually follows a certain logic on the part of both directions.

PSG is convinced by Ramos

On the one hand, PSG has the funds available. After fighting against financial fair play for many years following the transfers of Neymar and Mbappé, then the arrival of Messi, the capital club relieved itself of most of its big salaries last summer. The Brazilian and the Argentinian left, as did Sergio Ramos, Paredes, Draxler, Verratti and Wijnaldum. Thanks to all these departures, the Ligue 1 leader has much more room for maneuver and can act in advance.

And if PSG took matters into their own hands in November, it is because they are already convinced by the Portuguese’s qualities. On the pitch, it is still far from perfect, both statistically (2 goals and 1 assist in 15 matches in all competitions) and in the game (technical waste, lack of connection with the collective), but Ramos is seen as a player with great potential. He convinced the technical staff on and off the field.

Benfica no longer obliged to sell this season

This announcement also suits Benfica. Certainly, the last quarter-finalist of the Champions League lost its prolific scorer of recent seasons (41 goals in 106 TCC matches) but this money is a breath of fresh air. It will make it possible to avoid selling other elements of the squad between now and the end of the season. We think of David Neres, Morato, Florentino Luis, Petar Musa and especially António Silva and João Neves. This is also what the president of the club, Rui Costa, explained last September. In short, everyone is happy with this operation.
