A little more than three years after his arrival at Olympique de Marseille, David Friio officially left this Thursday, as announced by the Marseille club.
Things continue to move on the side of Olympique de Marseille. While the international break has ended and the team coached by Gennaro Gattuso is preparing for its trip on Saturday to the Meinau stadium in Strasbourg (9 p.m., 13th day of Ligue 1), it is from the management side that a departure was announced this Thursday. Sports director of OM until now, David Friio has left the Marseille club.
An expected announcement since for several days, the arrival of Mehdi Benatia to take over the position had leaked. If nothing official has been mentioned concerning the latter, the departure of David Friio should however settle the situation and clear things up. As for David Friio, first responsible for recruitment at OM upon his arrival in September 2020 before being bombarded as sporting director, no information on his future has been revealed.
Place in Benatia
After the departure of Javier Ribalta (former OM football director) last October, the organization chart of the Marseille club continues to be overhauled. It remains to be seen what impact the recovery of sports management by Mehdi Benatia will now have, when he is officially appointed.
