Trained at the Racing Club de Lens, can Raphaël Varane come full circle to end his career?
Arriving at Manchester United two and a half years ago, Raphaël Varane should not be left hanging in the north of England. The 2018 world champion has been relegated to a wild card role in the club’s central defender hierarchy. A downgrade which should encourage the Frenchman to leave United next summer.
In this context, a destination has been mentioned in recent hours: the Racing Club de Lens. A pure product of the Lensois training center, can Varane return to the club that brought him to the highest level? The hypothesis made Franck Haise smile, who did not shy away from the rumor at the press conference.
Franck Haise’s quip
“If Raphaël wants to come back, he is welcomed with open arms every time, launched the Sang et Or coach. With a contract, it’s something else, joked the coach of the Artesian club. I read that it was complicated for Bayern Munich to pay his salary. So if it’s complicated for Bayern… But maybe he wants to come back, I don’t know. (Laughs.) It’s a nice debate, but it’s not a current debate…”.
Varane would indeed have to make very significant efforts financially to evolve at RC Lens.
