Real Madrid are looking for a replacement for Vinicius Junior, who faces a long period of unavailability due to injury.
And Los Blancos have reportedly prepared a surprise transfer for Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi.
Vini Jr faces at least two months on the sidelines with a thigh injury, leaving Carlo Ancelotti’s side short of attacking options given they already lack a number 9 high class since the departure of Karim Benzema for the Saudi Pro League this summer.
Real Madrid are now looking to remedy this situation by returning to the transfer market in January.
Fotomac reports that Real Madrid have “pressed the button to sign a striker” following Vini Jr’s injury. Ancelotti has reportedly asked the club to sign Icardi.
The Turkish outlet reports that Los Blancos are willing to pay 15 million euros for the 30-year-old, who is under contract until 2026. Such a sum could be enough to tempt the Super Lig club to sell.
From Real Madrid’s point of view, however, it would be strange to sign a striker requested by Ancelotti just six months before his supposed departure from the Merengue club.
Furthermore, the center forward is not the ideal replacement for Vini Jr, while Real Madrid already have a professional striker in the person of Joselu. The Argentinian would represent an improvement, but not significant.
Icardi’s agent and wife, Wanda Nara, had hinted that the player could leave the club this summer, while he was also linked with Madrid.
In an Instagram post, she said: “I congratulate all Galatasaray fans. I feel part of this big family, I know Mauro and I knew from the first day that he would lift this trophy. I remember very well the day I convinced him, in Paris. Today we celebrate with you the realization of our dream.
“We will never forget our Galatasaray family, we will always carry you in our hearts”. This message was seen as a farewell message from the player’s partner.
