Manchester United have been warned that reports of interest in Antoine Griezmann prove “something is wrong” at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have been linked with the 2018 World Cup-winning France international with the Blues for some time, but have never been able to agree a deal. Transfer speculation has resurfaced as the January 2024 window approaches, with the Premier League heavyweights still looking for attacking inspiration.
Former United striker Louis Saha told Paddy Power of the surprising rumors surrounding his compatriot and a possible move from Atlético Madrid to England: “Antoine Griezmann is a talented player and unlike many players, there were never any doubts about him. He is very mobile and, physically, he always finds the right area. Manchester United’s interest in him immediately shows that there is something wrong.
“They already have Mason Mount, but that means they are looking for a replacement because Griezmann is that type of player. He is an intelligent player who can get into small spaces, create things and score goals. He is a great player who has scored so many goals for Atletico Madrid and it would be really exciting. But I don’t see him as a future Manchester United recruit. With no disrespect to Griezmann, I don’t understand why they (the Manchester United board) are interested in him. He is a short-term solution, but I don’t see Manchester United’s future with Antoine Griezmann. »
