Following Gavi’s season-ending knee injury, FC Barcelona have been linked with several midfielders across Europe to replace the 19-year-old.
Despite their financial difficulties, the Catalans can sign a player on loan, provided his salary is no more than 80% of Gavi’s.
The two Paris Saint-Germain players, Fabian Ruiz and Carlos Soler, have been cited among the players likely to join FC Barcelona. Both players have struggled to establish themselves since arriving in the capital in 2022, which could have opened the door to a temporary departure in January. However, this seems not to be the case.
According to Sport, PSG coach Luis Enrique, formerly of FC Barcelona, is counting on Fabian and Soler until the end of the season, especially since Walter Zaire-Emery has been sidelined until 2024 due to a injury. The French champions will therefore not accept that one or the other player leaves the club.
At this stage, it would be surprising if Barcelona signed a replacement for Gavi. It could be that a La Masia player is promoted to the first team, which would free up space in the wage bill to bring in Vitor Roque.
