The list of former football players who find themselves ruined at the end of their career has grown a little longer.
Ligue 1 does not have a monopoly on former players in serious financial difficulties. The UNFP has in fact revealed in the past that no less than 50% of footballers were ruined just five years after the end of their career. The reasons are diverse, from lifestyles disconnected from their new reality, to risky investments, to crooked advisors and to costly divorces.
La Liga seems to be facing the same phenomenon. New example with the confessions of Arda Turan, the former player of Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona. The one who now officiates on the bench of Eyuspor, in Turkish D2, has in fact revealed that he has seen all his savings disappear. “ All my savings were lost in an instant », he explained in the columns of Sport, pointing the finger at the director of a subsidiary of an Istanbul bank: “ He deceived me by saying: “Whoever invests in this fund will make a profit.” I donated over 13 million (of euros). All the money and effort I had earned. The work of several years suddenly disappeared. »
And according to the Catalan daily, Arda Turan would not be the only victim of these risky investments. Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera and other former Turkish footballers also reportedly lost big.
