Olympique de Marseille is the worst student in the championship in an unexpected ranking revealed this week…
This is a ranking that has not gone unnoticed in the various fan communities. The football observatory (CIES) revealed this week the identity of the best training clubs in France based on a specific criterion: the playing time granted in Ligue 1 to players from the training center.
And this honorary ranking is very different from the overall reality since Olympique Lyonnais, bottom of the French championship, is the best student in this area. Renowned for its expertise in training, OL is the Ligue 1 club granting the most minutes to its academy players. In total, Anthony Lopes (720 minutes), Rémy Riou (270), Sinally Diomandé (810), Maxence Caqueret (967), Alexandre Lacazette (648), Rayan Cherki (642), Corentin Tolisso (636), Mohamed El Arouch ( 1) and Bradley Barcola (270, before his transfer to PSG) played 45.6% of the minutes played by players on the Lyon squad this season, as detailed in the newspaper L’Équipe.
OM worst student in Ligue 1!
Stade Rennais and Montpellier HSC complete this podium, with respectively 30.6% and 24.8% of minutes played for players from their center. On the other hand, at the other end of the ranking is Olympique de Marseille… The Marseille club has zero points in this area since it has not used a single player from the training center since the curtain rose. A statistic which inevitably made the club’s supporters react, keen to see local talents launched into the deep end. It should be noted that the Racing Club de Lens, often praised for its training, is also in a surprising seventeenth place, while Paris Saint-Germain is sixteenth.
