Mbappé, the absence that hurts

This Tuesday evening against Greece, Kylian Mbappé started the match on the bench. A decision which was not without consequences for the Blues.

Didier Deschamps made an important turnover for the match between France and Greece, after the Blues’ victory against Gibraltar last Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann, Adrien Rabiot and Théo Hernandez were the only players to play both matches. The rest of the eleven was reshuffled, notably with the tenure of Randal Kolo Muani in place of Kylian Mbappé, who started on the bench.

The Bayonnais justified his decision by the fatigue of the players and the busy schedule to come, in particular the Champions League.

“I do my best to protect the players. There we will return at 5 a.m. And next week there is the Champions League. We have to make sure not to take risks because there are already injuries.”said the French coach.

But the absence of the Paris Saint-Germain striker was felt on the pitch. France was less incisive and conceded the draw (2-2). This is the second time in 2023 that the Blues have failed to win without their starting captain.

Last September, the Tricolores lost 2-1 against Germany, while the Bondynois suffered from pain in the patella tendon, behind the knee.
