Recruited for 16 million euros (without the coach’s agreement), the former FC Metz player plays little and has not scored in six matches.

Mikautadze is, however, a high quality player. Born in Lyon and trained with Les Gones, he finished his training at FC Metz, appeared on loan in Belgian D2 and D1 before exploding last season with Les Grenats, scoring 23 goals and 7 assists in 37 matches. He was voted best player in Ligue 2 and it has been a long time since this championship had offered such a talented striker, and one who was particularly complete despite his height (1.76 m).

Pablo Longoria, the president of OM, made a big mistake by recruiting Vitinha for 32 million euros last winter and giving the highest salary in the club’s history to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the past summer. The Portuguese center forward is a valuable player but technically limited, while the Franco-Gabonese is struggling physically, at 34 years old. This is clearly one of the reasons for the Phocéens’ failed first part of the season.
