The French team could have come back with 3 points from their trip to Greece but was denied a goal. Deschamps had a bad experience.

The France team will not have made an eight out of eight in the Euro qualifiers. But, she could have. For this, goal line technology would have had to be used in Athens during its match against Greece.

France’s goal was valid

Ten minutes from time, the Blues thought they scored the 3-2 goal following a blocked shot from Kingsley Coman. But, curiously, the main referee did not validate it. The ball crossed the line after hitting the post, except there were no tools to confirm it.

Images from the French broadcaster then showed that the ball had returned. France was unfairly deprived of a goal and that was not to the liking of Didier Deschamps. “ What I regret is that we are at the international level. And there could have been qualification at stake. We could have been first in the FIFA rankings.”

Deschamps had a bitter taste

Same story with his player Antoine Griezmann. “What was missing for the full box? He missed the goal-line technology. They (UEFA) can’t put everything together so that we know if there is a goal or not. Given the new technologies available today, it is surprising to say the least that we are witnessing this type of situation.”

Deschamps still wanted to put things into perspective afterwards. “No, it doesn’t frustrate me. It’s not the fact that there is no VAR that makes us concede these two goals. It’s just a gambling incident.”
