Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has insisted he is happy at the club despite reports linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Fernandes, the United captain, is reportedly wanted by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), which owns four Saudi Pro League clubs. Despite his status as captain, the midfielder’s performances and attitude have been criticized over the past year. However, the 29-year-old has shut down rumors he could leave Old Trafford.
Since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in January, several big names have joined the Saudi project. Karim Benzema, Sadio Mané, Riyad Mahrez and Neymar have all left top European clubs, while young stars like Ruben Neves and Gabri Veiga have also made the move. Fernandes and United have had a poor start to the season, but for now he remains committed to Erik ten Hag’s project.
At the microphone of Sports TV, Fernandes said: “ My focus is on the national team and United. I am happy where I am. As a national team, we had some very good moments. At Manchester United we didn’t start the way we wanted. I don’t look at rumors. I don’t pay attention to it. Today it is very easy to spread rumors in the press. I prefer to focus on my goals.
Only time will tell if Fernandes’ commitment to United is solid. His contract expires in 2026, when he will be 31 years old. If United continue to struggle to keep up with Europe’s top teams, the Portuguese star could decide to drop fees and join the Saudi project.
