Saturday evening, the French team had a blast beating Gibraltar (14-0). A bitter victory in which Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick, including an exceptional goal from almost midfield to lob the opposing goalkeeper. After the match, Didier Deschamps was questioned by Bixente Lizarazu about his captain’s performance. And he was teasing to say the least. “No, I expect a lot more from him», Says the Blues coach, referring to the criticisms made by Luis Enrique after Mbappé’s hat-trick against Reims.

“Kylian, beyond what he has done and is capable of doing, scoring this hat-trick… he is totally involved on the pitch and in his role as captain too. This makes him responsible towards the group, he does it perfectly, assisted by Antoine (Griezmann) too”adds Didier Deschamps at a press conference. “In management, communication, I’m not saying it’s not good what Luis Enrique did, I can do it differently. It could happen. In management, there are different things. Everyone does as they feel. I know that my players know what I expect of them. Talking to the players through the media… everyone does what they feel at the time.” A strong response from the French coach who, as often, defends his players.
