Launched from the start by Didier Deschamps against Gibraltar, Warren Zaire-Emery sets a new record for the French team.
Didier Deschamps has decided. The French coach has decided to give his new recruit, Warren Zaire-Emery, a chance to enter. The PSG midfielder is lined up as a starter for the French team’s opposition against Gibraltar. The match will be played this Saturday evening at the Allianz Riviera in Nice.
Zaire-Emery in the world of adults
At 17 years, 8 months and 19 days, Zaire-Emery became the youngest French international in the post-war period. He erases the record set by Eduardo Camavinga in September 2020. The latter was then 17 years and 303 days old.
Note that in Europe, some have done better than WZE. Lamine Yamal, for example, made his debut for Spain when he was just 16 years and 57 days old.
Zaire-Emery will not set the absolute record for the French team either. All eras combined, Félix Vial remains the youngest. In October 1911, he was 17 years and 76 days old when he played for Blue.
Zaire-Emery already holds several records for precocity within his club PSG. He is the youngest player in the history of the club to have played in the first team (August 2022), the youngest to have played in C1 (October 2022) and also the youngest scorer (February 2023).
