Jean-Pierre Papin, advisor to Pablo Longoria, learned of the disappearance of one of his former teammates at OM. The Marseille club mourns Henri Stambouli.
He was only 62 years old. Henri Stambouli died in Dakar (Senegal), Unecatef, the French coaches’ union, said on Friday. OM, where he ended his playing career between 1986 and 1989, is mourning one of his figures.
The former goalkeeper belonged to Raymond Goethals’ staff when the Belgian coach led the Marseille players to final victory in the 1993 Champions League.

Five years earlier, Henri Stambouli kept goal for OM during the semi-final return of the 1988 Cup Winners’ Cup at Ajax Amsterdam for a victory for the Olympians (1-2).
Jean-Pierre Papin had marked this day in April. The current advisor to Pablo Longoria, the president of OM, must feel deep emotion for his former teammate, like the people of Marseille.

Henri Stambouli, father of Benjamin, the defensive midfielder of Adana Demirspor (Turkish D1) and notably French champion with Montpellier in 2012, had held several positions at OM: goalkeeper coach and director of the training center (2010-2013 ).
Also in charge of training in Montpellier (2013-2018), Henri Stambouli had several experiences abroad (Guinea, Switzerland, Spain, Mali, Tunisia, Togo and Algeria).

He will also remain closely attached to AS Monaco. Arriving on the Rock at 18 in 1979, Stambouli spent most of his career before joining OM at the start of the Bernard Tapie era.
