Olympique de Marseille is preparing to make a significant change in its organizational chart.
At the heart of a disappointing first part of the season, Olympique de Marseille is preparing to appoint a new sports director. This week, President Pablo Longoria took stock of this issue in an interview with RMC Sport, mentioning in particular Mehdi Benatia.
“He’s one of the people we spoke to, it’s true. But at the moment, we have to discuss the situations a lot and try to analyze the feasibility of the project. This is why we still have to take time to announce the sports director. There is a situation which is particular and for which we must ensure legality, as with all questions that we take up inside the club. And there is also the analysis of the situation in general to choose the right sports director. There are currently discussions with different candidates. »
For Benatia, OM has decided
If Longoria has therefore kept the suspense in this matter, it ultimately seems that the Spanish leader has definitively decided. Mehdi Benatia should arrive at Olympique de Marseille. According to information from L’Équipe, the former Moroccan international will be officially inducted into his new role “at the end of the week”. The French daily nevertheless provides notable clarification regarding the position of Benatia, who should serve on a “consultant mission”, although in practice, the Moroccan should indeed be Javier Ribalta’s successor.
