While the France team is already qualified for Euro 2024 and should be seeded in the draw for the competition on December 2, the end of the qualifiers will determine the composition of the hats in the draw. Surprises are to be expected.
If you missed it, the Euro 2024 draw hats are based on the overall qualifying rankings. This was already the case for Euro 2020 and the France team had inherited a group of death with Germany, Portugal as well as one of the host countries, Hungary. Didier Deschamps’ Blues could well experience the same misfortune despite their very probable seeded status during the draw scheduled for December 2 in Hamburg.
France is the second best team in all the qualifiers behind Portugal, before two final (easy) matches against Gibraltar and Greece. If we take into account projections of Football Rankings, England, Belgium and Spain are also expected to be part of the six seeded hat, in addition to the Mannschaft. So many great selections that the 2022 world vice-champions will not face during the group stage. It’s already that.
Pot 2 could offer well-known opponents of this EDF: Switzerland and Denmark, respectively 14th and 19th in the Fifa Ranking. Not easy. In hat 3, we will have to avoid the Netherlands and Croatia, 7th and 10th in the world rankings, while Italy could be the scarecrow of the last hat. The Nazionale is 3rd in its qualifying group but will play a “final” against Ukraine next Monday (match relocated to Leverkusen).
Possible groups (according to Football Rankings projections)
Hat 1: Germany, Portugal, France, England, Belgium, Spain
Hat 2: Hungary, Denmark, Albania, Turkey, Switzerland, Austria
Hat 3: Scotland, Netherlands, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic
Hat 4: Italy, Slovakia, Romania, the winners of the three play-offs
