This summer, Paris Saint-Germain was particularly active during the transfer window. Ousmane Dembélé, Randal Kolo Muani, Bradley Barcola, Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, Kandg-in Lee, Cher Ndour, Lucas Hernandez, Gonçalo Ramos, Manuel Ugarte and Arnau Tenas have set down their bags in the French capital. Others have permanently left the residents of the Parc des Princes, like Neymar Jr, Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Julian Draxler and Marco Verratti.

Finally, there are the elements that were sent because they did not fit into the plans of Luis Enrique and Luis Campos or they needed more playing time to express themselves. This is the case of Xavi Simons. Snatched from FC Barcelona, the young man made a few appearances here and there in Paris. In detail, he appeared on just one occasion with the pros in 2020-21. The following year, he was able to participate in 9 matches in all competitions.

Happiness is in the loan

To continue to progress, he was sent on loan last year to PSV Eindhoven. A very positive experience since he had a string of good matches and improved his statistics. Indeed, he ended the year with a nice record of 20 goals and 9 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions including 40 starts. Back in Paris, the Dutchman did not stay there very long. He was sent on loan for a year to Leipzig.

A club that knows how to highlight young talents. Simons feels like a fish in water, he who continues to impress everyone. He currently has 6 goals and 8 assists in 17 matches in all competitions (16 starts). Enough to delight PSG which is awaiting its return next summer. But a lot can still happen between now and then. In Germany, Bild explains that Leipzig wants to keep the player at all costs.

Leipzig has an idea to keep him

The German media explains that the idea is not to try to transfer it since Paris will most certainly oppose it. But Leipzig’s plan is to keep the former Barça player on loan for an additional season, until June 2025. An option which seems “probable” and which should suit all parties. The German club believes in it. Asked about his future, the main party gave a classic answer. He didn’t want to get wet.

“I’m enjoying my time here with my teammates. We want to achieve a lot. We will see what happens in the future after this.” A future which could therefore continue to be written in Leipzig, which hopes to keep it longer than expected. But it will depend on the player and PSG, where Simons’ contract ends in June 2027. Recently, The Parisian explained that the Ile-de-France residents had not yet decided on his subject and that his case would be linked to the departure of KM7. But the plan proposed by Leipzig is not uninteresting. To be continued in the next episode…
