Olivier Giroud, AC Milan striker, was suspended two matches after his expulsion during the match in Lecce (2-2) on Saturday. The French international was sanctioned for insulting remarks against the referee.
Olivier Giroud (37) will spend almost a month without playing in Serie A. The French striker was suspended for two matches on Tuesday by the Italian league three days after his expulsion during the draw in Lecce (2-2, 12th day of championship), Saturday.
Giroud was sent off for attacking the match referee in stoppage time (90th + 3). Very annoyed by a foul not called on him, he was first warned after getting annoyed with Mr. Rosario Abisso. He was kicked out a few seconds later for continuing his recriminations. La Repubblica claims he shouted “fuck”.
As a reminder, the former Chelsea player opened the scoring on a cross from Théo Hernandez (37th). Milan even led 2-0 before being caught in the second half.
The Italian sports judge (who makes disciplinary decisions) justified Giroud’s two-match suspension for “insulting remarks”. The native of Chambéry will miss the matches against FIorentina on November 25, then against Frosinone (December 2) and will therefore only make his return to the championship on the 9th on the Atalanta field.
