Mr. Marciniak’s refereeing during the World Cup final in Qatar between France and Argentina continues to be talked about, almost a year later…
As with the recent Rugby World Cup, the last World Cup was marked by numerous controversies surrounding refereeing. This was particularly the case in the final between France and Argentina, certain decisions by Szymon Marciniak sparking numerous indignant reactions among French supporters, but not only that.
Almost a year later, journalist Grégory Schneider has not forgotten and made serious accusations against the Polish referee. But not only. “ Marciniak was there to help Messi win the World Cup, just like that bastard (nothing to worry about) Orsato who screwed the Croatians in the semi-finals because he was there for that. Which Croatians had already been beaten by the referee in 2018 (the final). Impossible to substantiate but I was at the stadium both times and frankly… The France-Croatia refereeing is both incredible and monstrous. This asshole admitted five months later that he should never have whistled for the Blues’ penalty.” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The final of the last World Cup was marked by several very contentious situations which the Polish referee had to face: from Dembélé’s foul on Angel Di Maria to the origin of the first Argentinian goal scored from the penalty spot to the burst of Argentine players at the time of the third goal including Otamendi’s foul on Kolo Muani at the origin of the first French penalty which could have earned the Argentine defender a red card.
