Maurizio Sarri spoke about his relationship with Jose Mourinho after Lazio’s goalless derby draw.
Just after Lazio were held to a draw by Mourinho’s AS Roma in the Derby della Capitale on Sunday, Sarri revealed he considered the Portuguese manager a “pain in the ass”. He added that he didn’t like the way the veteran spoke in press conferences, but that he admired him as a person.
Ahead of the Serie A clash, the two leaders engaged in a war of words, with the former Real Madrid manager claiming the Lazio manager had won next to nothing compared to his own career.
The Italian told reporters : “We had already crossed paths before the match. I told him, ‘You’re a real pain in the ass.’ He replied: ‘Besides, you are too! I don’t like dealing with Mourinho as a media character, but Mourinho as a person is great.”
Serie A will resume after the international break on November 25 with Lazio taking on Salernitana in the opening match of week 13.
