Fabio Grosso once again addressed the case of his star player, Rayan Cherki, this Friday at a press conference.
At Olympique Lyonnais, there is at least one constant this season. At every press conference, he is the subject of Rayan Cherki. This was again the case this Friday, two days before the match against Rennes. Fabio Grosso, the coach, once again had to answer questions concerning the French international hopeful.
Grosso encourages Cherki to find her place
The Italian technician was asked about the best use of Cherki on the pitch. He suggested that he himself has not yet found the solution. “We have an important player, he’s a special player to use. It’s Rayan (Cherki), he feels comfortable as soon as we’re in the game, so not necessarily with a 4-3-3. He’s a player who has qualities but I always say that we want to try to improve him because he has to find his place. Even when he is in ten, he must try to help the team. »
For Cherki, it will be even more complicated to adapt if he does not play and if the system changes from one meeting to another. “It’s not easy to answer because in the clubs before they told me that I was too rigid and now they accuse me of changing too much. We have not yet found the right solution but we will have to work and have clearer ideas about what we are putting in place. Before I often played my team in 4-3-3. Here we have a team made up of players who are not easy to put together.”
“Restore a great state of mind” at OL
To overcome Rennes this weekend, tactics will necessarily be important. But Grosso insisted on another aspect with a view to this trip to Brittany: the mind. “All matches are important for us. We have to play every match to the fullest. We cannot fault the involvement during the matches. You need a great state of mind. It is an important club which is in great difficulty. Only we can restore it. It’s up to us to do what we need to do to take our responsibilities, have a big match and take points. »
Finally, the Italian technician assured that he has seen a lot of positive things in his group recently and that he is hopeful that this will finally materialize in results. “I hope we will find a balance. We have seen progress in training even if the results are not there. We set up the targets in training. We have increased our physical condition, we are progressing even if we don’t show all Sunday. Sunday against Rennes, a great team, we will try to have a great match.”
