Real Madrid have decided to end their long-term pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé for three reasons, it has been reported.
Madrid have been heavily linked with Mbappé for years, but have so far failed to lure him to the Santiago Bernabéu. However, CadenaSER reported on Wednesday that the Spanish giants have decided not to return for him next summer, even though he is available for free after his contract expires.
The reasons why Madrid decided not to sign the Frenchman are threefold, according to this source.
First of all, because he will demand an annual salary of more than 20 million euros and he will ask for a huge bonus on top of that for having made the transfer as a free player. Summer recruit Jude Bellingham is currently under contract for a fee of €9 million per season.
Secondly, Mbappé will soon be 26 when he joins the Spanish capital, which goes against Madrid’s current policy of signing young players, such as Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouameni and new striker Endrick.
Furthermore, Mbappé’s decision to snub Madrid for a huge contract at PSG created a negative image of him among club members. Los Blancos are concerned about the effect such spending could have on the mood of supporters and the economic situation.
The Bondynois has long been considered a future Madrid star, but he chose to sign a new contract with PSG instead of joining the Santiago Bernabéu in the summer of 2022. The Spanish team is not the only club where he could find himself if he leaves PSG next year, as Premier League teams are said to be after him.
The striker will be in action again on Saturday in the match against Reims in Ligue 1.
