During an interview organized by their common sponsor, Zinedine Zidane and Lionel Messi discussed different subjects. The Argentinian mentioned PSG.

Since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, Lionel Messi has made it clear to anyone who will listen that his time in the capital had not been the best moment of his career. Now exiled in the United States where he plays in Major League Soccer under the jersey of Inter Miami, the 2022 world champion is enjoying a few months of rest. Free time which allowed him to meet a certain Zinedine Zidane to discuss different subjects… Including his time in Paris.

A theme which was not at all the most important of this summit meeting, organized by Adidas. The main part of the conversation first revolved around the number ten role that both men had during their respective careers. Evoking their youthful examples in particular, Zinedine Zidane and Lionel Messi cited Enzo Francescoli for one and Diego Armando Maradona for the other. Until we get to talking about Paris Saint-Germain.

“Number thirty was special too”

Without being asked, Lionel Messi mentioned the jersey number assigned to him in the capital club. One more regret for “la Pulga”. “ When I was in Paris, I didn’t wear number ten. Well… I was used to always wearing a jersey with the number ten, after all these years at Barcelona and the national team. Even though it wasn’t a big deal, I still missed ‘my number’ a little because I’ve worn it my whole life. But it’s OK. I got used to it because number thirty was also special to me. This is the number I had when I started and played my first football match. So it’s a bit special too.“
