Despite the defeat conceded this Tuesday on the Milan pitch (2-1), PSG can hope to qualify for the round of 16 when they host Newcastle.
PSG lost big on Tuesday, losing 2-1 at San Siro. The French champions have in fact completely revived AC Milan and lost first place in the group to Borussia Dortmund, winner of Newcastle. With six points on the clock after four matches, the Parisians only occupy second place in their group and may fear for their qualification for the round of 16.
“ It’s the group of death, that’s why they called it that. The four teams have their destiny in their hands. We will have a very important match in Paris the next day,” Luis Enrique whispered after the match against Milan.
Milan must not beat Borussia
However, PSG is not only master of its destiny but can even reasonably hope to validate its ticket for the round of 16 in this next match against Newcastle. A victory against the Magpies at the Parc des Princes combined with a draw between AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund or a success for the Ruhr club would indeed be enough for the capital club.
In the event of a draw against Dortmund, the Rossoneri would certainly still be only three points behind, but the Lombard club would no longer be able to get ahead of the Parisians due to their results in direct confrontations. Consequence of the 3-0 victory won by Luis Enrique’s men at the Parc.
