A major European club failed to recruit Jude Bellingham when it had the opportunity to do so for only €20 million.

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that current Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham is set to be a Blues player.

Bellingham could have ended up in London

The English international midfielder is now considered one of the best in his position in the world. He has also just received the Kopa Trophy, which rewards the best young person on the planet. However, its trajectory could have been quite different.

Lampard claims Bellingham could have been signed from Birmingham City for just €20m just before he moved to Dortmund. But he failed to convince his management to put his hand in his pocket.

“When I coached Chelsea (the first time), I definitely wanted to bring in Jude Bellingham,” he told the Obi One podcast. But I was unable to convince the general staff of the idea of paying 20 million euros for someone of his age (at the time)…”

Bellingham was just 17 years old when he left Birmingham for the Bundesliga in 2020. The cost of the transaction was 30 million.
