Olympique de Marseille will have to do without its captain, Valentin Rongier, for several weeks, with a knee injury.

Olympique de Marseille lost more than two points on Saturday evening against Lille (0-0). Hit in one knee at the end of the match, after a collision with an opponent, Valentin Rongier suffered a sprain.

According to L’Equipe, the former FC Nantes midfielder should be absent for several weeks. He might even not return to the field until 2024.

This is very bad news for Olympique de Marseille, and in particular its coach Gennaro Gattuso. Since the arrival of the Olympian technician, and even since the ousting of Marcelino, Rongier has played the last eight OM matches in their entirety. Gattuso will have to rely on Jordan Veretout and Geoffrey Kondogbia for the next few weeks, without having many alternatives.
