FC Barcelona conceded its first defeat of the season in the Champions League, beaten by Shakhtar Donetsk (1-0).
This is the first hitch of the season for FC Barcelona in the Champions League. After taking nine points out of nine possible during the first leg, the Blaugranas fell this Tuesday, in Hamburg (Germany), against Shakhtar Donestk.
Listless in the first half, Barça was surprised by a headed goal from Danylo Sikan, who got the better of Andreas Christensen, shortly before half-time (1-0, 40th). Xavi had slightly reshuffled his team for this meeting, notably leaving Joao Félix. The Portuguese striker came on around the 60th minute, in a giant coaching move (Yamal, Baldé and Pedri were also thrown on), but Barça never managed to come back.
Accounting, this setback is not catastrophic for the Catalan club, which remains at the top of its group, and will always have its destiny in its hands with the reception of FC Porto on the first day. But Xavi’s team is clearly not going through its best period, with the defeat in the Clasico against Real Madrid (1-2) and this sluggish victory on the pitch of Real Sociedad (0-1). A reaction is expected this Sunday during the reception of Alaves.
