On the pitch at the Estadio de la Ceramica, Villarreal lost to Athletic Bilbao (2-3), on the 12th day of La Liga. Revengeful after being beaten in Barcelona then held to a draw by Valencia last weekend, the Basque club started this meeting strong. And for good reason, Ernesto Valverde’s men found the net in the 2nd minute of play thanks to a goal from Inigo Ruiz De Galarreta, author of a sumptuous cannon shot from outside the area (0 -1, 2nd).

Dominant, the visitors doubled the lead through Nico Williams after a nice combination with Oihan Sancet in the opposing area (0-2, 22nd). Stunned, the Pacheta players conceded a third goal during the first act. Inaki Williams came to crucify Filip Jorgensen with a dry strike from 20 meters (0-3, 30th), well served by the intractable Oihan Sancet, again in charge. Despite better intentions after returning from the locker room, the Groguets struggled for a long time with a very good Unai Simon, vigilant on his line (51st, 70th). But in the space of two minutes, the locals ignited the end of the game. Gerard Moreno (1-3, 85th) then Alexander Sorloth (2-3, 87th) gave his team hope, in vain. This short success allows the Basques to resume their march forward and enter the top 5. Opposite, Villarreal remains stuck in the second half of the ranking.
