According to journalist David Berger, the sale of Olympique de Marseille to Saudi Arabia is indeed on very good track.
This November 2 marked 1000 days since the announcement, in winter 2021, of the sale of Olympique de Marseille. An announcement which had all the makings of fake news even if some, first and foremost the journalist Thibaud Vezirian, continues to assert since the transfer of OM has been recorded and its imminent formalization.
But according to Canal+ journalist David Berger, the sale file could indeed be completed quickly. “ A quick word about Marseille, we talk about it a little less but behind the scenes things are happening for the sale of the club. We talk very, very little about it and yet, this sale is getting closer. It is Saudi Arabia which would be interested in buying the club. We are talking about 400M€ and a 200M€ budget for recruiting,” he said on set.
And David Berger to drop a date. “And it would perhaps be for January, he actually added. It’s happening quickly and perhaps the events that happened last weekend may have served to speed things up. McCourt may want to sell and if the price is set, around €400 million, it could happen faster than expected!”
Saudi Arabia’s interest in Olympique Marseille is no secret. Recently, The Independent revealed that two clubs were in the sights of Saudi investors: OM and FC Valence. And if the Saudis favored the favorite club, the file seemed more difficult to complete than that of the Marseille club.
