The clash of the 11th day of Ligue 1, between OM and Lille, ended without a winner or goals (0-0).
After a ten-day break, OM returned to competition this Saturday. The Phocaeans hoped to do so with a victory. In vain. Opposed to Lille, they delivered a rather dismal match and had to settle for a small 0-0.
OM running out of fuel
Despite the support of their public and also the presence of three attackers at the forefront (Harit, Aubameyang and Sarr), the Phocaeans were very discreet offensively. In 90 minutes, they only had one real scoring opportunity. It was harvested by Amine Harit at 46e.
Back in the starting eleven, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was once again ordinary. The Gabonese only touched one ball in the opposing area. And the only time he could have made the difference, he was beaten by Alexsandro when it came time to finish. An insufficient performance for a player of this rank and the Olympian supporters were not mistaken in jeering him as he left the field (78e).
Lille deserved better
Lille was not much more dangerous than OM, only making the Vélodrome shudder once. It was a quarter of an hour into the game when Yusuf Yazici found the crossbar while trying to lob Pau Lopez. But, the Mastiffs had the merit of showing themselves to be conquerors and generous in the effort. Without Ms. Frappart’s few questionable decisions, they might have succeeded in forcing the decision.
In the end, the match ended in a goalless score. A result which clearly does not help OM’s affairs, even if Gattuso’s team gains two places in the ranking to provisionally position itself 8e. Lille, for its part, remains at the foot of the podium (4e). Both teams will now focus on their European duties.
