Ballon d'Or: Messi crushed Haaland, voting details

Lionel Messi beat Erling Haaland for the 2023 Ballon d’Or, as expected, but no one expected him to win in such a landslide victory, as was revealed on Saturday.

According to information revealed by several media outlets, including Fabrizio Romano, Messi received 105 more votes than Haaland, with the 2022 World Cup winner winning his eighth Ballon d’Or. The Argentinian received 462 points, while the young Norwegian striker received 357.

Journalists from the top 100 nations in the FIFA men’s world rankings voted to choose the winner of the prize. England representative Henry Winter voted for Messi, perhaps surprising given Haaland’s exploits in the Premier League last season.

Messi and his Inter Miami teammates will face New York City FC in a friendly on November 10, a match organized to celebrate his Ballon d’Or.

The 36-year-old will next captain Argentina in World Cup qualifying matches against Uruguay and Brazil later this month.
