A group of death for the Blues at the Euro?

One month before the draw for the Euro 2024 group stage, if France is (almost) guaranteed to be in pot 1, it is not safe from a very tough group.

France must give one last push in its last two matches of the year. After validating their ticket for Euro 2024 by winning in the Netherlands in October, the Blues must indeed sign one last success to ensure top seed status during the draw which will be held in a month in Germany.

The organizing country being guaranteed to be seeded, it is necessary to finish among the best first five of the ten qualifying groups to obtain this privileged status. Thanks to their six victories in six matches, Didier Deschamps’ troops are in a position of strength but must still achieve one last success, either at home against Gibraltar, or in Greece for their final match to achieve their goals.

France with Italy and the Netherlands

However, France would not be safe from a difficult draw on December 2. Consequence of the presence of big fish in all the hats. At least if the draw was made before the last two days which will be played in two weeks. If in addition to Germany and France, Portugal, England, Belgium and Spain are on track to be in hat 1, Italy is currently in hat 4 and the Netherlands in Hat 3, just like Croatia. And unsurprisingly, hat 2 includes some big fish like Denmark or Switzerland.

Despite its probable top seed status, France could therefore face Denmark, the Netherlands (or Croatia) and Italy next June. A group that would look like a group of death which would be reminiscent of the Blues group in 2021 with Portugal, Germany and Hungary.

The provisional hats before the last two days of the playoffs.

Hat 1: Germany, France, Portugal, Belgium, England, Spain

Hat 2: Hungary, Switzerland, Albania, Denmark, Scotland, Turkey

Hat 3: Austria, Croatia, Netherlands, Slovenia, R. Czech, Serbia

Hat 4, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, the three roadblockers
