Bayern Munich will have to do without one of its senior players for a long time.
In the long journey of a season, there are evenings to forget. Or to rehash, it depends. Bayern Munich’s match against Saarbrücken, played on Wednesday, is one of them. While this German Cup meeting seemed like a formality for Bayern, Thomas Tuchel’s team suffered a humiliating defeat synonymous with elimination (1-2), thus making a bid for a trophy this season.

Matthijs de Ligt had to give up his place due to injury during the match after an action in which he injured his knee alone. Following poor support, the Dutch international fell badly. The former Ajax Amsterdam player underwent tests which revealed a partial tear of the internal ligament in his right knee. The duration of its unavailability is estimated at 4 to 6 weeks.
If De Ligt should therefore play again before the end of the calendar year, Thomas Tuchel will still have to tinker with his defensive sector, already weighed down by the absence of Dayot Upamecano. Kim Min-jae is the only operational central defender among the experienced players in the squad currently.
