Zinédine Zidane and Didier Deschamps played in the same team during a charity match on Tuesday evening in Lens, but the two 98 world champions exchanged little on the pitch and did not spend the post-match together…

Strong men of the French team during the coronations at the 98 World Cup and Euro 2000, but also teammates at Juventus from 1996 to 1999, Zinédine Zidane and Didier Deschamps did not remain very close after their careers. The sidelining of Karim Benzema among the Blues alienated “Zizou” and “La Dèche” and the French coach also had a hard time with the announced arrival of Zidane on the French bench throughout 2022.

Although they are not friends, the two French legends can nevertheless rub shoulders during certain sporting events. The proof again with their participation in the Legends Match, organized Tuesday evening at the Bollaert-Delelis Stadium in Lens, for Pascal Olmeta’s association, “A smile, a hope for life”. No less than 26,530 spectators were able to attend this meeting, former RC Lens and a “Team Legends” made up of former French internationals.

It is clear that Zidane and Deschamps did not appear very close. During the warm-up before the meeting, “DD” had fun with Sébastien Squillaci, his former player at AS Monaco, or the comedian Paul Mirabel, but had no interaction with Laurent Blanc and Zinédine Zidane , who exchanged balls with Florent Sinama-Pongolle. “Zizou” was also close to Eric Carrière, with whom he completed his general management diploma.

Zidane and Deschamps did not spend their evening together either. “Zizou” and Blanc quickly returned to the locker room and then went to their hotel to have dinner, while Deschamps stayed in Bollaert to enjoy the VIP area in the company of the former glories of the Sang et Or and ex -players of the XV of France Sébastien Chabal and Fabien Pelous.
