It wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if Cristiano Ronaldo found himself back in show business at the end of his playing career, and already the curtain on that prospect is starting to rise.
According to Fightful, Ronaldo was in talks with WWE to participate in their Crown Jewel event on November 4 in Saudi Arabia. These discussions did not come to fruition because Al Nassr is playing on the same day, but it is not excluded that he will appear in the crowd at the event.
The Portuguese superstar would be the latest in a long line of celebrities and athletes to step into the WWE ring, including Donald Trump, Tyson Fury and various MMA fighters.
The idea was that Ronaldo would attract a new market for WWE, as Georgina Rodriguez, Ronaldo’s girlfriend, is also involved in a Netflix special. The appearance of WWE could mean additional exposure for the wrestling company via this series.
Likewise, Ronaldo will not appear with just any big arm. The only way he would have appeared in the ring would have been alongside John Cena, the now-retired wrestler who is perhaps the biggest name to come out of the industry. Several wrestlers have come out of retirement in the past, and with Cena now a household name in Hollywood, Ronaldo was keen to have him present for any potential appearances.
As it happens, Ronaldo will be on the pitch for Al Nassr that day, but perhaps this foreshadows a future appearance without scheduling issues, and a future direction for Cristiano….
