Roman Abramovich left some questionable moves by selling Chelsea in 2022. The Premier League has opened an investigation.

Roman Abramovich has apparently left a few pots and pans for his successor at the helm of Chelsea. Tedd Boehly, owner of the Blues since May 30, 2022, had informed the authorities of irregularities committed during the period when his Russian predecessor reigned.

The Premier League club was fined around 10 million euros, imposed in July by UEFA for having infringed the rules of financial fair play due to the “ submission of incomplete financial informations” between 2012 and 2019.

The Premier League in turn looked into the matter which, report the British media, would concern the transfers of Samuel Eto’o and Willian. The Cameroonian and Brazilian attackers left Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala in the summer of 2013 to join Chelsea.

Eto’o, who arrived free, stayed for a season in London (before leaving Everton) while Willian, recruited for 35 million euros, spent seven years at Stamford Bridge.

During an extensive due diligence process prior to finalizing the purchase, the ownership group became aware of potentially incomplete financial information regarding historical transactions during the club’s previous ownership, had communicated the new bosses of Chelsea. Immediately following the completion of the purchase, the club proactively reported these issues to all relevant football regulators. »
