Jude Bellingham has admitted he was probably “criticized” by everyone for scoring yet another close-range goal for Real Madrid in the Clasico.
The Englishman has acknowledged the number of tap-ins he has scored for Madrid this season, but says he is not just lucky, but creates his own luck. The 20-year-old enjoyed an incredible first encounter with Real Madrid’s fiercest opponent, FC Barcelona, scoring twice in the second half to help Carlo Ancelotti’s side overcome a one-goal deficit and win 2-1 to take all three points. Bellingham’s double brings to 13 the number of goals he has scored in 13 matches in all competitions.
Bellingham spoke to Real Madrid TV about his efforts: “What is my favorite goal in the Clasico? Probably the first. I imagine everyone is mad at me for the second one, I know I’m often criticized for doing tap-ins! But I was on the move, you create your own luck and I did it again.”
“I received the ball at the edge of the area. I’ve been saying for a few weeks that I have to try to play from the outside. Maybe the opponents expect me to try to enter the box or combine with a teammate and I wanted to surprise them by hitting from outside the box. I know I have the technique and the ball went into the top corner.”
Karim Benzema’s sudden departure for Saudi Arabia this summer led to the arrival of Bellingham, whose goals helped propel Madrid to the top of the La Liga table, ahead of a surprising Girona side. Barcelona are currently four points behind the fourteenth winners of the Champions League.
