Colombian police have offered a reward of 200 million pesos (around 45,000 euros) for information regarding the alleged kidnapping of Luis Diaz’s father.
The Liverpool star’s parents were kidnapped in their country on Saturday afternoon after their vehicle was intercepted by two armed men in Barrancas.
Cilenis Marulanda, the player’s mother, was released a few hours later, but his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, was not released.
Police said Sunday they would pay a large reward for information leading to the location of the kidnappers and the release of Diaz’s father.
“On the instructions of the Minister of Defense, a reward of up to 200 million pesos will be granted to anyone who provides us with information that allows us to find Mr. Luis Díaz,” said Police General William Rene Salamanca.
According to El Tiempo, police feared the kidnappers were trying to take him out of the country, to Venezuela, and found the motorcycle on which Diaz was taken.
Liverpool have been without Luis Diaz for Sunday’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.
“We had to make a late change due to Luis Diaz’s private situation,” explained Jurgen Klopp. “It’s a worrying situation for all of us and it was quite a difficult evening. I had never experienced this before. It’s a new experience that I didn’t need.”
The Reds team showed their support for the striker by holding up his shirt after Diogo Jota opened the scoring in the 3-0 win.
“Liverpool Football Club can confirm that it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia”, the club said on Sunday.
“We very much hope that this matter will be resolved safely and as soon as possible. In the meantime, player welfare remains our immediate priority. »
