Disaster for the Blues!

While the women’s Ballon d’Or was awarded, unsurprisingly, to Spaniard Aitana Bonmati, the two French internationals nominated for the individual award, Kadidiatou Diani and Wendie Renard, are ranked only 14th and 26th.

False joy: French football will not celebrate its first player on a women’s Ballon d’Or podium this Monday. Logically, the Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmati obtained this title of best player in the world, she who was elected best player of the Champions League and best player of the World Cup in Oceania, two competitions which she won respectively with La Rojita and FC Barcelona.

If the Australian Sam Kerr and the Spaniard Salma Paralluelo complete the podium, the two French players were snubbed by the jury of journalists. Kadidiatou Diani was however claiming a place in the top 10 or even on the podium, but the Blues striker, who moved from PSG to OL during the summer, is only 14th! Wendie Renard finished 26th.

Furthermore, no other player from D1 Arkéma is among the 30 ranked players. Amanda Ilestedt, 15th in this women’s Ballon d’Or, left PSG for Arsenal during the summer.
