The official ranking for the 2023 Ballon d’Or is gradually being revealed and the five lowest ranked nominees are now known. Messi towards an 8th Ballon d’Or?
Who will succeed Karim Benzema on the Ballon d’Or list? Winner in 2022, “KB9”, who moved this summer from Real Madrid to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, is out of the running for this 67th edition of a trophy which seems promised to one of these three favorites: Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé. Given their individual and collective performances, it is difficult to imagine another podium during the ceremony which will take place this Monday evening in Paris.
It remains to be seen in what order the Argentinian, the Norwegian and the Frenchman will finish. According to several media, including the Catalan daily Sport and the journalist Fabrizio Romano, it is “la Pulga” who should win the bet and thus win their eighth Ballon d’Or, after those won in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2021. A coronation that it owes essentially to the world champion title obtained with Argentina last December in Qatar.
Despite his hat-trick with Manchester City (Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League), Erling Haaland is therefore likely to have to settle for a place of honor, just like Kylian Mbappé who finished finalist and top scorer in the Cup 2022 World Cup with the Blues, but also French champion with PSG. The 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony will be followed live and in full on the L’Equipe channel, unencrypted from 8:30 p.m. Like last year, it will be presented by Didier Drogba and Sandy Heribert.
